Vice President, Finance & Chief Compliance Officer
Ms. Maria Carelli is Vice President, Finance and Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) at Crimson Asset Management Ltd.
Prior to Crimson, Ms. Carelli spent 11 years at the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), Compliance and Registrant Regulation Branch (CRR), most recently as Senior Accountant. Ms. Carelli was involved in monitoring and assessing compliance by investment firms and individuals in accordance with OSC regulatory requirements. Her responsibilities included examining the compliance systems of dealers, portfolio managers, investment fund managers and others to ensure the effectiveness of operational controls, segregation of duties and risk management, in adherence to OSC regulatory requirements. Ms. Carelli was also the CRR co-lead for the multi-branch exempt market policy initiative, where she influenced and drafted key elements of the policy framework with Canadian Securities Administrators counterparts.
Before the OSC, Ms. Carelli was a Business Valuator at Fuller Landau LLP where she conducted valuations of privately-held securities and provided financial litigation support, including forensic investigations, and fund tracing. Ms. Carelli also worked at Moore Stephens Cooper Molyneux LLP where she performed audits of investment funds, mutual fund dealers, mid-market private companies and public companies. This included analyzing and reviewing final audit reports, and providing recommendations to improve internal controls and operating systems.
Ms. Carelli has a BBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University. Following graduation from Schulich, she earned her Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) designations in 2003 and Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) designation in 2007.
